What I don’t Understand About Xmas

I’m not ashamed to admit that Chritsmas and all that goes with it, really tires me out. For the last five years I’ve been lucky enough to get away to Lanazarote, a small Spanish Island over Christmas. In addition to the much more pleasant weather that this part of the world enjoys, it is also an absolute pleasure to away from all the bull surrounding Christmas that I’d rather not be a part of. This unfortunately I do not have the opportunity to do so and to be honest, I’m dreading it.

First of all, it’s crept up on me very quickly, I am aware that it is a clich© to say this, but I think this fact is particularly pertinent this year for me anyway because I never usually pay any attention to since I know I’m jetting off. Christmas has crept up and I’ve still completed none of my shopping, not that I want to do any of it. Looks like I might have to buy my girlfriend a Porsche Cayenne to make up for the lack of presents on Christmas morning!

I think the thing I hate most is the obligation to adhere to widely accepted conventions, like the need to buy presents and the need to gorge yourself on mountains of fatty, high-carb food on Christmas day. It is not only the fact that you feel you have to do it, but also the odd looks you get if you don’t. That irritates me, I can’t think of a topic that is more dull than Christmas, maybe personal contract purchase.

Putting up Christmas decorations also seems to be a preoccupation for many people at Christmas, if this was a five minute task I wouldn’t have a problem with it, but since it seems to take up a whole weekend I must say I’m staunchly opposed to it. What gratification can people really get from throwing shiny stuff all their house? I’d rather read a book the Audi Q7.
